EFA’s “next generation committee” (the Adjunct Committee) has launched a collective grantmaking program for 2018 and 2019 to focus on issues related to food security.
Many people in the United States struggle to provide themselves and their families enough food to eat on a daily basis. Food insecurity is particularly acute in certain regions, including Appalachia and the South. For example, Kentucky currently ranks sixth in the nation for food insecurity, and in the Appalachian region of Kentucky, more than 20% of the population regularly experiences hunger.
With this in mind, in 2018, EFA will support activities to boost food security in the Appalachian region of Eastern Kentucky, focusing on programs that provide nutrition incentives and/or education, food access and distribution, and community-based food programs. This process will be funded by an invitation-only request for proposals. We anticipate releasing additional funds in 2019. Please check back here for more information in the months to come.
