Many people in the United States struggle to provide themselves and their families with enough food to eat on a daily basis. Food insecurity is particularly acute in areas like the Appalachian region of Kentucky where more than 20% of the population regularly experiences hunger. With this in mind, EFA supports activities that boost healthy food access in the Central Appalachian regions of Eastern Kentucky, Southeast Ohio, and West Virginia. We fund programs that increase access to nutritious food, build community resiliency, and strengthen those programs through policy work and advocacy.
EFA’s Food Security program continues until the end of 2022. We are focused on supporting our current grantee partners in this work and are not currently accepting new funding ideas.
